We all know the importance of food to our culture and everyday life. It’s normally influenced by where we live, traditions and family. For Mariano (Santa Lucia’s co-owner) this is no different. Growing up in XXXXX near Naples, much of life and work revolved around the sea. As a child, Mariano fondly remembers wandering the seafront with his mother and visiting the markets to see what had been freshly caught.
One of the specialities of the area was pasta with clams or mussels and fried calamari. Mariano’s mum would cook fantastic dishes using the ‘catch of the day’ and the house would be filled with the smells of the sea. On certain days a favourite dish was octopus salad. Another frequent meal might be past with cannellini beans or beans and mussels.
Growing up surrounded by these flavours and dishes can’t help but grow your passion for food and Mariano has continued this throughout his life so far (and continuing to learn and develop). He hopes that some of these influences and the passion for food comes across within every dish that is served.
And when you visit, don’t hesitate to ask about any traditional Italian recipes that you might have always wondered about.
